Ten Weeks to Basic Bridge: Lessons start September 6, 2017

What’s going on?

We’re announcing a series of lessons for beginning Bridge players: “Ten Weeks to Basic Bridge” beginning September 6. This series will be led by David Dailey, a relative newcomer to Bridge who understands the challenges encountered by new players.

You’ll learn Bridge from the ground up using Standard American bidding. This fast-paced series is designed for those with no cardplaying experience, as well as for players who want to get back into the game using modern methods. When you complete this series, you will be ready to play Bridge in social games as well as in introductory Duplicate games. Seattle Bridge Center offers a Rookie Duplicate game on Tuesday evenings.

You can take the lessons by yourself or with a partner. You’ll meet several new players along the way.

What does it cost?

Lesson fees are collected on a pay-as-you-go basis. You can stop or return at any time.

  • $10 per person per week
  • $5 for ages 19-25
  • $Free for ages 18 & under

Class materials for missed lessons are available at $5 per lesson (free for 18 & under).

When is it?

This lesson series begins on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 and meets weekly through November 15, 2017. There is no meeting on October 18.

Each class begins at 7pm and runs until 9:30pm. We start right at 7pm to make the best use of your time. Our doors are usually open by 6:45pm at the latest. Light snacks are provided; food is also available nearby at the Burger King restaurant or the QFC deli counter.

Where is it? How do I get there?

Classes are held at Seattle Bridge Center, 1539 NE 145th Street, Seattle WA 98125. We share a parking lot with the QFC supermarket and Dollar Tree store on the southeast corner of 15th Ave NE and NE 145th St. If you are facing the entrance to the Dollar Tree store, turn to your right and you will be facing our front door.

Our intersection is a half-mile east of Interstate 5 at Exit 175 (NE 145th St) and about a mile west of Highway 522 (Lake City Way/Bothell Way) on NE 145th Street.

The intersection of 15th Ave NE and NE 145th St is served throughout the evening by Metro routes 65, 73, 347, and 348, and by other routes (64, 308, and 373) in the early evening. We have plenty of free parking.

What else do I need to know?

No RSVP required, but if you know you’re planning to attend, please tell us (in the comments or with a phone message) so we have a general idea of how many people to prepare for.

Reply in the comments or leave a message for David at 206/336-3428 with any questions.

If you’d like to watch a game of Duplicate Bridge live and in person, please join us Tuesday evenings at 7pm for Rookie Duplicate, where spectators are always welcome. Doors open by 6:45; no game August 22.

  1. My wife, Denise Holcomb, and I would love to attend these classes. We will miss the first week and third week but plan to attend the rest.

    1. Hi Pam — I look forward to meeting you and Denise in September.

If you can make it, I encourage you to come to the remaining session of Drop-In Bridge: Chat & Play, on Wednesday August 16th at 7pm. We’ll be able to give you a fair bit of the introductory information you’d be missing during the first week.

Also, you’d be welcome to be a spectator at any of our Rookie Duplicate sessions on Tuesday evenings at 7pm. (There is no Rookie Duplicate game on August 22nd.) This would be a good chance to see how it all goes together, giving you a framework for the material you’ll see during the lessons.

See you in September if not sooner!

      -David

    1. Hi Cynthia – Sounds great! I’m looking forward to meeting you in September.

  5. I was wondering if you are going to run this class again after Nov. 15th.

    1. Hi Brenda – Yes, I’ll be hosting a new series of this class beginning in January. I haven’t pinned down the exact dates yet, but it will be on Wednesday evenings. Please send an email expressing your interest to SeattleBridgeCenter@gmail.com and we’ll add you to the list of folks who’ll get the announcement when it’s ready.

Or stay tuned to this blog — I’ll post here as well.

      Thanks!
